I am no expert in this field; neither am I a doctor. But what I believe is, that it is imperative for us to know about various eating disorders since a lot of us may be indulging into it but might not know that it is actually a disorder and it needs to be looked upon asap.
Without much ado, let us get started.
1. Emotional Eating / Mood Eating
As the name suggests, eating while we are not necessarily ‘physically’ hungry but our emotions influence us to eat is Emotional eating. For instance, I reach out for a Chocolate pastry when I am happy, but majority of the time, I am not even hungry when I am happy! Also, when I am bored, I order Pizza, ALWAYS!
So, I didn’t realise, I have been indulging into unhealthy food while I am happy, sad, angry or just bored.
Eating may not even fill in the gap of that emotional feeling we may be having but we connect food to everything and hence, such unhealthy choices.
Better, we understand that handling Emotions is a different thing and eating is a different thing and mixing the two is not always a good idea.

2. Binge Eating / Compulsive Overeating

There is no single reason why people binge eat. There could be various factors viz., obesity, emotional trauma, genes, anxiety, negative thoughts, any personal problems, etc.
Various therapies could help a person cope up with this. And in other cases, medication helps as well.

During my childhood & early teenage years, I was obsessed with eating chalks, I never knew this was an eating disorder. Eating non-food items is called Pica. People eat chalks, hair, clay, dirt and substances we cannot even think of. However, it is more common in children than in Adults. This could be due to a deficiency of some nutrition in a person that may attract him / her to this type of non-food items.
